Well the 2015 New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) Iris Awards are over and done with for another year. As the awards were held in Queenstown I decided it was either go big or go home, so I entered the full 10 prints allowed. I secretly hoped that I would be awarded enough points to achieve my Masters this year, but as I only gained my Associate last year which took me 3 years of gathering points, I thoughts it was probably going to be a bit of a long shot. But I am super happy to say that this year alone I gained as many points as my three previous years put together, so I can now call myself a Master of Photography with the NZIPP and put some more fancy letters with my name.
This year 50% of my entries were personal work, and the other 50% were from weddings I have been lucky enough to be part of. A big shout out has to go out to my clients who put their trust in me to capture their special day. Without you guys I'd have nothing to photograph, and these awards wouldn't have been possible. So a massive massive thank you!!!
I have put together a blog below of all the images I entered this year. Out of 10 entries I received 1 Silver with Distinction (and was 4 points off a Gold), 2 Silvers, and a total of 5 Bronzes. Last year I entered 4 images and received 1 Silver and 3 Bronzes, so it has been a massive increase for me. I can see the improvement in my work from when I first entered in 2012 and I cannot wait to see what I come up with in 2016. I already have so many ideas swimming around in my mind!!
Sophie and Mark scored me my very first Silver with Distinction, which is so awesome. So much work went into the editing of this image and it was the one I had the highest hopes for. I had such an emotional connection to it so I am happy the judges felt the same way.
