Who are you?
My name is Kate and I am the owner and main photographer at Still Waters Photography. I am a Southland and Central Otago based wedding photographer but I do also travel to Taranaki. Before I was a wedding photographer I was a wedding coordinator, and before that I was at university studying a BSc with a major in Psychology. This means I have both the power to not only shoot your wedding, but help you plan it and answer any questions along the way. My degree also comes in handy when trying to wrangle over enthusiastic family members ;) I am the wife of a sheep farmer and the mother of one small child. All these things keep my busy between shooting weddings and family portraits.
Are you an actual professional photographer?
With what I charge you would hope so right?!? I have been awarded the title of Master of Photography with the NZIPP, which is a massive honor. I also pay my taxes, only use professional standard equipment, backup my work countless times, and operate my business in a professional manner. I am also an accredited member of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography. This means that I have had to pass a certain professional standard for my work to be classed as such. I've also won a number of awards, so I must be pretty ok aye?
Award winning photographer you say... Tell me more.
In 2012 I entered two images into the Epson/New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography Iris Awards for the first time. From this I managed to come away with one High Professional Standard, and one Bronze Award. This then gave me the confidence to feel great about entering the Kodak Professional Gold Awards. At this competition I walked away with THREE Silver Awards. Two of these awards were for wedding images and the other was for my portrait work.
Throughout the years following, I have received eight more silver (two with Distinction), and eight more bronze, awards at the Epson/New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography Iris Awards. As well as a further two Gold Awards in the Kodak Professional Gold Awards. In 2016 I also took a giant step and entered the Australian Professional Photography Awards for the first time and cam away with 4 Silver Awards, two of which were with Distinction.
How long have you been photographing weddings for?
I have been shooting weddings for over five years now, and it has been such an amazing five years. In this time I have shot over 80 weddings and have won a number of awards for my wedding and portrait work.
What is the Still Waters Photography's philosophy on wedding photography?
I like to take a twist on the traditional with my timeless, fresh and relaxed style, while being easily adaptable to your own personal tastes and ideas for your special day. My aim is to offer you the best possible memories from one of the best days of your lives, in a package that best represents you.
Do you use digital camera equipment?
I sure do. I currently have the latest Canon 5DmkIII as my main shooting body and I also have a trusty 5DmkI in my camera gear as a back up. Its not a matter of in case something goes wrong, its a matter of when. It is a great idea to make sure your photographer will have backup gear on hand on your wedding day. I also shoot with the Canon 24-105mm L-series, Canon 16-35mm L-series, Canon 135mm L-series, Canon 50mm 1.8, and the Sigma 85mm 1.4 lenses. All amazing lenses that will help me capture the true essence of your wedding day.
Can our guests take photographs at our wedding?
They are totally more than welcome to. The only thing I do ask is that I am the only official photographer there on the day, with the exception of my second shooter if you have requested one. This is so I can capture all the details of your big day and create the perfect memories for you.
How long will Still Waters Photography keep our wedding photographs?
I keep your wedding photos for the length of one year. After this I will transfer them over to a disc and pop them in storage. However disc's are not fool proof so I can only promise one year.
How can we make the most of our wedding photographer?
Every wedding starts with an engagement and so should the images that tell your story. An engagement shoot is a great chance to get to see how I work behind the camera and for you to get a feel of how it will be on your wedding day. It is also a great chance to get some images to use on Save The Date cards, to display at the wedding ,or just to hang on your wall at home. I also find that clients who have had engagement photos done feel more relaxed on their wedding day, and this shines through in the images.
What is the Still Waters Photography's bridal gift registry?
I have found that so many people are living together before they get married, and as a result they have most of the things they need. Because of this I have had a lot of interest in running a wedding gift registry where your guests can put money towards your Queensberry album, a canvas, or photo blocks. Plus it is super easy. I send you out a card to go in with your invitations that will have the account and reference info on it. I then keep a spreadsheet of payments made for your wedding. Once your special day is over I will let you know the total amount gifted to you and you can use it however you want. Sounds better than getting 4 toasters doesn’t it :)
What is your payment policy?
If you would like to secure my services for your wedding photography, we will send you a Client Information form and Booking Agreement that we ask you to complete and return together with a $500 confirmation fee. This will be deducted from the total package price that is due one week before the wedding. This confirmation fee is non-refundable should you decide to cancel. Payment plans can be put in place to help spread out the cost. Get in touch for further information.
